The weather became too cold, so they pitched their skins to make a tent and crept inside to make a small fire for food and warmth. Camped in the snow along the trail, Dzauya spoke quietly with Adjulindje about their day and he noticed Adjulindje kept looking at their wet moccasins hanging by the fire. After drying his wet moccasins by the fire, Dzauya took them down and placed them under his head as he slept, to keep them safe. This action frustrated Adjulindje, who slept with his eye on Dzauya, and in the morning they continued their journey.
During the second day, halfway towards Stuart Lake, the snow was bad Adjulindje suggested they make a second camp, early in the evening. Again, during their conversation, Adjulindje kept looking at Dzauya’s moccasins and again Dzauya placed them beneath his head for safekeeping and slept.
Adjulindje quietly woke up during the night, took his own moccasins that had been hung to dry and placed them into the fire, looked at Dzauya, then went back to sleep.
In the morning, Dzauya awoke, put on his moccasins and prepared for the day’s walk. Adjulindje, acting surprised, couldn’t find his own moccasins. Asking Dzauya if he could wear his moccasins, Adjulindje offered to give him a caribou hide in exchange for them, but Dzauya told Adjulindje he would go back to camp and get an extra pair for him instead.
Returning to McLeod Lake, Dzauya told the people what had happened. No one ever did bring Adjulindje those moccasins and Adjulindje eventually froze to death, alone.

ADJULINDJE, THE BAD ONE
Adjulindje had an evil reputation among our people. Anyone who walked with him along the grease trail, between McLeod Lake and Stuart Lake, was ever seen from again. When asked, Adjulindje always replied that he didn’t know what happened with those he walked with. He always acted as if it wasn’t his fault.
Adjulindje was eventually shunned in the community. No one trusted him and everyone stopped talking to him. No one ever offered to walk with him along the trail to Stuart Lake when he went to trade supplies.
Eventually, in the middle of winter, Dzauya offered to walk with Adjulindje along the grease trail to Stuart Lake. The weather was really cold and the snow was deep but they continued walking as far as they could. The whole way, Dzauya kept wondering why people were going missing when they walked with Adjulindje.
